Primarily we need food which is purchased in Tanzania.
We also try to help with the medical needs (medicines, doctor and dentist volunteers).

It is through your donations of many that these hungry children are being fed and receive medical assistance.

How donated money is spent

Money sent to True Awakening is used for the areas discussed above, primarily to feed the orphans. We purchase the food (rice and beans) , the cooking pots, and the plates. The children eat with their hands, so no need of utensils. There are no paid personnel either in the US or in Tanzania. All the cooking and cleaning that occurs with the feedings is done by volunteers from the Mothers Union.

We have U.S. bank accounts set up that are used to get money to the Tanzanians. We have a responsible person in Mwanza and another in Shinyanga that have ATM cards. They can use these to withdraw funds from the U.S. bank accounts. We put money in these accounts weekly for the needs and they go withdraw those funds. They don’t have access to monies unless they are put in these specific accounts.

We do an annual onsite visit to assure these programs are running smoothly and we have emails monthly from the volunteers reporting on the feedings. We also help in other ways, like sending an orphan to driving school so he can earn a living as a driver, or helping a destitute family that has medical needs get to to a health care facility.
